The Action Comic number 1 is the very first superhero comic book. It originally featured several superheroes, most notably Superman, and is credited as the beginning of the superhero genre. Published in 1938, the cover features Superman lifting a green car while people flee the scene. There were 200,000 copies printed of the first issue which sold out at a remarkable speed.
