Early Life

Benjamin Hammond Haggerty was born on the 19th of June 1983. He is the son of Bill Haggerty and Julie Schott. Macklemore is the youngest of two brothers and was born in Seattle with his older brother Tim. Macklemore, who is Irish-American in his heritage, first became interested in hip-hop at the age of six.

Macklemore started writing his own lyrics when he was fifteen. At Garfield High School, he formed a hip-hop group called Elevated Elements. Macklemore earned a bachelor’s degree at The Evergreen State College in 2009.

Career

Macklemore started his career as Professor Macklemore in 2000 with the release of ‘Open Your Eyes,’ which he produced and distributed.

In 2005, Macklemore released his debut album, ‘The Language of My World’. It was a success and earned him a large following. Macklemore performed in Seattle’s Bumbershoot festival, an arts and music event in 2008.

Macklemore began working with Ryan Lewis in 2009, as a duo. They released the single “Irish Celebration” the next year.

Two songs were written by the duo in March 2010, 2010. The duo performed the song in front 48,000 fans at the 2011 Mariners Opening Day on April 8, 2011.

In the same year the single ‘Thrift shop’ by Ryan Lewis and Macklemore reached No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Billboard recognized the single as the Hot 100’s first hit without major label support since 1994.

Macklemore’s 2015 single ‘Growing UP” was released for free. After a few days, he uploaded ‘Downtown,’ which he performed during the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards.

The duo’s second album, ‘This Unruly Mess I’ve to Make’ was released in 2016, and their second single, ‘Can’t Hold Us’, peaked at No.1 position on the Hot 100 chart.
