Career

Wie was the youngest winner in the US Women’s Amateur, and also the youngest qualifier for an LPGA Tour event. She began playing golf at the age of four.

She held the title of youngest-ever USGA national champion for eight years after becoming the youngest. Later, it was broken by a girl 11 months younger than Wie.

Wie won the 2002 Hawaii State Open Women’s Division. Wie made her professional debut in 2005, just one week before her 16th Birthday.

Wie was accepted at Stanford University a few years later. After graduating high school, Wie was not allowed to play on Stanford’s golf team.

Wie won her first individual professional tournament in 2009 The Lorena Ochoa Invitational, Guadalajara Mexico. This was an elite, limited-field event of the LPGA tour. Wie won her 81st professional event and was playing in her 66th LPGA tour tournament.
