He met Mike Mills, the bass guitarist, and they have played together in many bands including Shadowfax. Their first attempt at music was unsuccessful.

The four friends founded the band R.E.M. in 1980.

Berry was a drummer, but he also played the guitar, bass, keyboards, and piano, as well as backing vocals.

Berry wrote songs for the band such as “Everybody Hurts” and “Man on the Moon”. R.E.M. He has sold more than 85 million records and released 15 studio albums.
