The zonkey is a hybrid animal that is made from the cross between the donkey and the zebra. Since these two animals belong to the same genetic group, cross-breeding was possible. However, there is a rule as to when an animal should be called a zonkey.

When the offspring comes from a male zebra and a female donkey, it is called a zonkey. However, if the offspring has a male donkey and female zebra parents, then it is called a zedonk. Unlike other hybrids, zonkey can live in the wild close to one another.
