From 1868 to 1876, Sitting Bull had led his people in resisting any form of the US government taking over. During this time, the Great Sioux Reservation was already established and a lot of Sioux warriors have moved to the reservation permanently. They became dependent on the US government for their needs because this was a time when supplies and resources were depleting.

Although the depletion of animals to hunt in the area was becoming a challenge to preserve Native American independence, Sitting Bull refused to go to the reservation. In a ceremony in 1875, Sitting Bull had a vision. He had seen war and that he and his people would be victorious. And just as he predicted, the Battle of Little Bighorn happened and Sitting Bull and his people won the fight.
