Seals are known to hide in thick kelp forests and sneak on divers from behind. Gray realized that they were near a kelp forest. Could there be more seals around? He signaled his diving buddy to keep an eye on the kelp while he watched the two approaching seals.

In the footage they captured, the seals can be seen approaching them. Then, one of the seals actually swam right up to the camera. Now that the seals were so close, Gray realized that they were just baby seals. Gray signaled to his diving buddy to stay completely still. He knew that since the seals were still young, any sudden movement can scare them away.
