The Egg Rock on Mars isn’t the incredible discovery its name claims to be
If you were to find an egg on another planet, that would give you a pretty good idea that something lives there. The question is, would you wait around for the egg to hatch? Who knows what might be lurking inside or what creature may show up in search of the egg. It’s hard to deny the curiosity, though.
Unfortunately, this object photographed by the Curiosity rover isn’t actually an egg. Although it’s apparently called Egg Rock, that’s because it was named after an area in Maine’s Bar Harbor. What’s more, it’s a lot smaller than it appears in the image, with NASA reporting it to only be the size of a golf ball.
