Why kupa piti?

When the new name for the town was chosen, most of the locals laughed because the name sounded funny. But it did make sense to name the town something close to the original name so that the two can be closely associated.

But why did the locals call the area kupa piti in the first place? It was because what the miners did was dig underground tunnels and stayed there for long hours. It was one of the ways they were able to mine even when it is hot outside.
