5 50 Cent: “50 Cent”

50 Cent is actually a stage name, as you may have guessed. Curtis James Jackson III is the rapper’s real name. However, he takes the trademarking of his stagename very seriously. Named after Kelvin Martin, a 1980s Brooklyn Robber who was also known by 50 Cent. 50 Cent, after trademarking his stage name is now the only one that can make a profit.

According to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, “Jackson’s trademark covers everything from shirts and trousers to ‘prerecorded phonograph recordings’.” 50 Cent sued Taco Bell in 2008 for “infringing” their commercials that promoted their 99, 89 and 79 cent meals. Taco Bell should think twice about messing with 50 cent.
