Career
Holder worked at the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and as a United States attorney. Holder worked from 1976 to 1988 for the U.S. Justice Department’s Public Integrity Section.
Ronald Reagan appointed Holder in 1988 to be a judge at the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. He convicted Congressman Dan Rostenkowski of Illinois of corruption.
Holder resigned in 1993 and was named United States Attorney of the District of Columbia by Bill Clinton. Holder was the first African American U.S. Senator to hold that office.
He was then nominated for the position of Deputy Attorney-General. He became the 82nd Attorney general of the United States, and the first African American to do so. Holder worked as a senior lawyer for Barack Obama at Covington and Burling.
Because of the Fast and Furious investigation, he became the first and only cabinet minister in US history to be imprisoned in contempt by Congress.
