Career
He won the C group in the Corus chess tourney in Wijk aan Zee, in 2004. This brought him international attention. Carlsen was just 14 years old when he won in the C-group at Corus. This win earned him the title of “Mozart Of Chess” by Grandmaster Lubomirkavalek.
In the same year, he beat Anatoly Karpov, former world champion. He then drew with Garry Kasparov (then the best-rated player of all time) in a blitz tournament.
He was awarded second place in the Dubai Open Chess Championship, in April 2004, and was made a Grandmaster. He was the world’s youngest Grandmaster and the third-youngest person to have GM status at that time.
He was up against some formidable opponents during the Linares 2007 chess tournament. Many consider it to be “the Wimbledon of Chess”.
Carlsen defeated top-rated players such Veselin Topalov, Viswanathan Aand, Peter Svidler, Alexander Morozevich, Peter Svidler, and Levon Aronian to take second place.
Magnus Carlsen was challenged by Viswanathan, the world’s chess champ, at the 2013 World Chess Championship held in Chennai (India).
Carlsen won 6 1/2 -3 1/2 games by winning five, six and nine of the nine games while drawing the remainder. Carlsen became the new world champion of chess and was the second-youngest person (after Kasparov), who won the title.
